This term has been crazy. Not only did I join the International English Honor Society (Sigma Tau Delta) back in October, for which I was nominated, I was also nominated in January for the National Society for Leadership and Success. This came as a complete surprise. I’m not a leader. I like to be invisible.
Believe it or not, I found myself finishing up the orientation the first week of joining. The next week I completed the Leader Training Day work. Of the three Success Network Team (SNT) meetings I need, my first one is Sunday evening. Of the three Broadcast videos I need to watch, I’ve watched an interview with Rachael Ray. Loved listening to her talk about her success. She’s very down to earth. All of my calendars have alerts set to remind me to watch the LIVE broadcast with Terry Crewes this week. Seems there’s a live one every week. Once I complete the three SNTs and three broadcasts, and they get approved, I’ll move on to induction. That’s exciting. This means more cords, another certificate and pin, and I’ll purchase the stole and medallion like I did for Sigma Tau Delta.
One of the things I learned during the Leader Training Day is how to not only set goals, but to write them down and act on them. We had to do this and post it on social media with the hashtag #theNSLS. This gives my goals the power to drive me to get them accomplished. There is no break between this term and next, but I already have an idea of how to go about working on the first two steps of my goal during the term.
As for my courses, this term was really hard. Applied History and Fiction Writing. I never realized how involved understanding history could be. As for fiction writing, I’m an author for heaven’s sake. Yikes, it was short stories! I write novels. But with the help of interactive workshops and a very approachable instructor, I think I’ve finally gotten the hang of it. Might be able to write few novellas some day.
My grades are up and down, but the overall grades for each course are between an A and a B-. Theses are grades I hardly ever saw when I was in school as a kid. I’m proud of myself. As I approach graduation, looks like my last course ends just before Christmas which means graduation will probably be January 2023, the courses are getting much more difficult. I’ve made a few technical errors and timing errors this term. Now I have reminders, tasks, post-it notes and a check list on my desk, to keep me on track and on time.
Next term? All literature courses: World Mythology and Shakespeare! The final project in World Mythology looks interesting and I do love the Elizabethan era.
Back to work on my discussion responses! Have a great week and Spring better hurry up and get here!
